Dear Kimberly and the HFA Executive Committee,

Thank you for your service and commitment to the bleeding disorders community. As you know, the Chapter Services Organization (CSO) recently held a meeting in St. Louis from August 5-6 to discuss the local foundations’ roles in the national direction and narrative of the bleeding disorders community. During our meeting, the member orgs of HFA who were in attendance realized we could do better in fulfilling our responsibilities, duties and commitments to HFA in order to maintain the health of the organization. Consequently, the HFA member orgs in attendance (26 member orgs) unanimously approved the following:

CSO Hiring Committee Nomination

We appreciate your willingness to have a CSO HFA member org on the hiring committee as you begin the process of finding a CEO. We have selected Curt Krouse, Executive Director of the Eastern Pennsylvania Hemophilia Foundation to join the hiring committee. This individual represents the collective voice of the CSO members and will be reporting back to the CSO. He can be reached at: curtk@hemophiliasupport.org or at his office: 484-445-4282.

Executive Committee Leadership Role

During this time of leadership change, we are concerned with the dynamics of the Executive Committee of HFA. It is our understanding that there are three Executive Committee members who work for a specialty pharmacy. Representing 26 HFA member orgs, it is our professional opinion that having industry on the executive committee is a conflict of interest, and problematic because it also conflicts with our own policies and procedures. We ask that you present a solution to this conflict of interest within the Executive and overall Board membership at the August 21st Board meeting and communicate your findings to us.

Thank you again for all you do for the bleeding disorders community. We believe these requests will provide a stronger HFA during this challenging time of change.

Thank you,

Sincerely yours,

Rich Pezzillo, CSO Chair
Charlene Cowell, CSO Vice Chair
Debbi Adamkin, CSO Secretary
Fran Haynes, CSO Treasurer
Sue Martin, CSO Advisor
